‘Tis the Season, Mistletoe: A Novel Injection Therapy for Joint Pain

Mistletoe Injection

Joint pain from Osteoarthritis affects thousands.  While conventional medications and injection therapies like cortisone shots provide relief, the benefit is temporary, often with diminishing returns each time you use it.

A new/novel complementary injection therapy I can provide in office is Mistletoe injections- which can be curative with compounding benefits each treatment. Mistletoe injection therapy supports the body’s natural self-healing processes, by increasing blood flow and platelets to an area (such as a knee with degenerated cartilage, so the platelets & fresh blood can attach to the area of damage and heal or regenerate the tissue). Mistletoe has been shown to provide sustained pain relief and improve mobility in case studies.

Traditionally mistletoe (Viscum album) extract has been effectively used in Oncology & Integrative cancer care for centuries. Recently the Helixor M type mistletoe extract has been used to help treat & cure Osteoarthritis joint pain (M type grown on Apple trees, interestingly the type of tree that mistletoe grows on provides different phytochemical compositions & different medicinal properties) .

What to expect/ how it works:

It is a safe non-invasive treatment with subcutaneous (shallow) injections using a small needle surrounding the effected joint area (IE we may do 5 small injections around a knee joint).

4-6 sessions are required at which point often the joint is healed & patients can avoid further treatment or surgeries.

You can experience a mild swelling, some redness or itching at the injection site. Generally this is a positive reaction as we are activating the local immune system & blood flow. This reaction will go away within a few days.

It is a relatively inexpensive therapy costing $20 for the Mistletoe serums, in addition to the appointment fee (which is often covered by benefits, or at least a medical expense on your taxes)

If you are ready to try this therapy you can book with me anytime to get started.
