We've talked here on the problems with plastics before. The report, released recently from the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), details the enormous impacts of plastic pollution and related burdens on local administrations, and explains how the plastics industry is legally responsible for these quantifiable harms and costs.
Tiny plastic fragments, known as microplastics, are found in air, water, and soil, creating multiple pathways for ingestion into our bodies. Microplastics can circulate through the bloodstream and accumulate in organs such as the lungs, kidneys, stomach, and heart. They have also been detected throughout the reproductive system, including the placenta, breast milk, semen, penis, and testicles.
As plastic particles accumulate in the body, they can leach toxins and other chemical additives. These substances may have endocrine-disrupting impacts and can lead to a range of adverse health effects, from increased cancer risk to reproductive harms and neurodevelopmental disorders.
According to a 2018 study, the disease burden in the United States resulting from exposure to plastic chemicals is estimated to cost approximately $250 billion. 'The disease burden directly attributable to plastic production and consumption is substantial and spans the entire lifespan,' the study finds.
Smaller molecule plasticizers like phthalates and BPA are polluting waters worldwide. They are found in rainwater, the air we breathe, and even in the fossil record. Microplastics and plasticizers are so pervasive in all ecosystems, food chains, and the human body that it is difficult to find any place on our planet not contaminated by them.
The plastics crisis could easily wipe humanity out as they are a primary cause of hormone disruption. Plastics are automatically entering and filling our bodies simply by their existence everywhere around us. They create a real environmental nightmare, greater than human induced climate change. The amount of plastic waste globally more than doubled in less than twenty years, between 2000 and 2019.
Start reducing your use of plastic in your daily life.
Reduce your exposure by avoiding plastic water bottles, plastic bags, Tupperware®, synthetic clothing (e.g., polyester), plastic toys, food served in plastic, and processed food wrapped in plastic.
Additionally, filter your water, vacuum your home regularly, and consider using a HEPA filter to clean the air!
If each of us does our part, we can collectively have a significant impact on decreasing plastic production and its presence in our environment.
Think about the total accumulation of plastics within your body and be proactive.
Ozone Sauna Therapy will help deactivate some of the plastics.
Several studies have shown that sweating is a major route for eliminating these harmful chemicals.
Ozone Sauna Sessions could decrease the total plastic burden in the body and reduce their harmful health consequences.
Experience the benefits of Ozone Sauna Therapy at The Queens Med Spa, in Thornton, Ontario.
